Alhaji Yakubu Ayaana, a 65-year-old philanthropist from Tamale, has embarked on an extraordinary journey, walking over 250 kilometers from Kumasi to Accra to honor the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama.
Alhaji Ayaana, a businessman and advocate for unity, began his trek after traveling by vehicle from Tamale to Kumasi. Accompanied by an ambulance for support, he expects to arrive in Accra on January 7, 2025, just in time for the swearing-in ceremony.
Alhaji Ayaana’s journey is a gesture of congratulations to the President-elect and a celebration of Ghana’s peaceful 2024 elections. On December 21, 2024, shortly after Mahama’s victory, he completed a 19-kilometer health walk from Yakubu Tali International Airport to Jubilee Park in Tamale to express gratitude for the successful electoral process and the overwhelming support shown to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This is not Alhaji Ayaana’s first symbolic journey. In 1997, he undertook a walk to celebrate former President Jerry John Rawlings’ second-term inauguration. Two years later, in 1999, he organized a 16-kilometer peace and health walk in Tamale on Independence Day, aimed at promoting national unity and physical well-being.
Through his actions, Alhaji Ayaana seeks to inspire Ghanaians to prioritize health, unity, and peace. His journey underscores the importance of coming together as a nation to celebrate democratic milestones and collective progress.
