Residents of Awuteykope in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region were left in shock on Wednesday after a 53-year-old farmer, Addo Wayo, was discovered dead under a bridge in the community.
Wayo, who was reportedly on his way to the farm, was found by passers-by and some relatives who later alerted the family. The discovery has sparked concerns among residents about the circumstances leading to his death.
Geoffrey Madugu, a cousin of the deceased, explained that the body was retrieved and transported to a private hospital morgue at Asikuma by family members and residents. This happened after the police allegedly failed to respond promptly to the scene.
He expressed disappointment over what he described as a lack of urgency from the police, claiming they indicated they had no functioning vehicle to attend to the incident.
“The family expected the police to work judiciously, but they told us they did not have a working vehicle to attend to the scene,” he said.
Residents in the community have also voiced concerns about the delay and are calling on authorities to improve police logistics to strengthen emergency response systems, especially in rural communities where support is often limited.
