Eighty-two-year-old agriculturist Abraham Kwaku Edusei from Kwahu Afram Plains has been named the 2025 National Best Farmer, earning nationwide admiration for his lifelong dedication to Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Mr. Edusei, widely respected as “Senior Farmer,” has spent more than 60 years cultivating cocoa, cassava, plantain, maize, vegetables, and managing livestock. His integrated farming model and consistent productivity made him stand out at the 41st Farmers’ Day celebration.
After receiving the award, he expressed gratitude and encouraged Ghanaian youth to see agriculture as a profitable and fulfilling career. He also appealed to government to address pressing challenges faced by farmers across the country.
Residents in his community describe him as hardworking, disciplined, and generous, often providing seedlings, technical support, and mentorship to younger farmers. Agricultural officers also praised his ability to blend traditional knowledge with modern farming practices, helping him maintain impressive yields despite his age.
The 2025 Farmers’ Day event, which focused on innovation and food security, highlighted inspiring stories like Mr. Edusei’s, reinforcing the importance of farmers in sustaining national development. The award adds to his many recognitions, marking the peak of his decades-long farming career.
