The management of Wa Municipal Hospital has instructed 19 staff members to refund various amounts of money that were allegedly extorted from patients.

This decision followed an investigation by a six-member disciplinary committee that found the workers guilty of improper demands and the illegal sale of non-drug medical consumables in the hospital’s maternity ward.

The refunds, ranging from GH¢4 to GH¢286, were part of the sanctions imposed on the staff.

According to Sampson Abu, the hospital’s administrator, the investigation was launched after numerous complaints were received about staff misconduct, including the sale of items like surgical gloves and urinary catheters without authorization.

In addition to the refunds, other disciplinary actions such as changes in work schedules have been taken against the staff.

The hospital assured the public of its commitment to maintaining the dignity of patients and urged them to report any future issues for resolution.
